It's Debatable
Upper School debate had a fantastic season! In September, over 20 students attended the Jack Howe Debate Competition in Long Beach, held in person for the first time in three years. More recently, students attended a debate competition in Los Angeles. Traveling to test their arguments and explore ideas from different ideological backgrounds, students created memorable experiences together and met new friends along the way.
Our cohort earned many awards this fall. In Long Beach, Wallace A. ‘26 and Alex J. '26 took 1st Place in Novice Policy Debate, Buck A. ‘23 and Dylan C. ‘23 won Quarterfinalists in Varsity Policy Debate and Anay M. ‘23 and Anokhi M. ‘24 earned Semifinalists in Parliamentary Debate. Buck A. ‘23 took 2nd Place Overall Speaker in his division and both Buck A. ‘23 and Dylan C. ‘23 qualified to attend the Tournament of Champions in May.
Alumnus Jasper Reid ‘21, who as a student at Head-Royce competed in this event, joined the event as a judge. Check out the Long Beach debate vlog! In LA, two novice teams, Alex J. '26, Wallace A.
